This year, The Keep turns six.
Each of our stores has now celebrated a birthday — milestones that matter deeply to us. Six years of refilling bottles, testing products, answering questions, learning from our community, and watching small, repeatable habits take root in real homes.
That feels like the right moment to pause and share what still guides us.
Not as a mission statement, but as lived values — shaped by experience, accountability, and the people who refill with us every day.
Trust
Trust is the foundation of everything we do.
Every product on our shelves has been researched, tested, and used by us. Because we are a mission-first operation, we don’t carry products that simply sound good — they have to work. If they didn’t, refilling wouldn’t be realistic, and the system would fall apart.
We also hold our suppliers accountable. They are responsible for their containers, just as we are responsible for what comes into our stores. We do not accept plastic packaging in our deliveries, and when you refill, we refill — closing the loop wherever we can.
For online orders, we plant a tree to help neutralize our carbon footprint. And if you can believe it - we've NEVER purchased a packing material, we've re-purposed the ones we receive form our suppliers! These choices aren’t about optics. They’re about responsibility.
You can trust us because we genuinely care — about the products, the systems behind them, and the people using them.
Kindness
Kindness isn’t an add-on to our values — it’s how we operate.
All of our products are cruelty-free and ethically made, but kindness goes beyond certifications. It shows up in how we speak to customers, how we educate without judgment, and how we approach sustainability without fear or guilt.
Our mission is simple: to take care of one another, and to take care of the planet we call home. We believe people are far more likely to change their habits when they feel supported rather than shamed.
Community
It really does take a village.
The Keep was never meant to be just a store — it was meant to be a community-based alternative to single-use plastic. We’re deeply engaged with our local communities and schools, because the most lasting change happens close to home.
We want younger generations to grow up knowing this way of consuming as normal. We want to empower people — young and old — to be part of the solution in their own neighbourhoods.
These are our parks. Our rivers. Our forests. This is our community, and we believe taking care of it is a shared responsibility.
Imagine if every community had a refillery. Imagine the change that could create.
Education & Accountability
We believe knowledge is power — and that once you know, you can’t un-know.
We take time to understand our products inside and out, and we use every opportunity to educate, inspire, and support better choices — both inside the refillery and beyond it. Education isn’t about overwhelming people with information; it’s about offering clarity and context so people can make decisions that align with their values.
Accountability is part of that. Every choice we make has consequences, and we spend a lot of time trying to make the right ones — knowing we won’t always be perfect, but always committed to doing better.
Whether someone’s refill journey is just beginning or well underway, our hope is that they leave feeling informed, empowered, and capable of making their own change.
Six years later
Six years in, our values haven’t become louder — they’ve become steadier.
We’re still here because these principles work in real life. Not because they’re dramatic, but because they’re practical, human, and repeatable.
Trust. Kindness. Community. Education. Accountability.
These are the values that built The Keep — and they’re the ones that will carry us forward.
We’re grateful to everyone who has refilled with us over the years. Every bottle, every conversation, every small choice has mattered more than you know.
